Book Sariyah for an evening length concert and a separate writing-performance workshop customized for your community! Sariyah's facilitation sits at the intersection of creative craft, personal transformation, social justice, and energetic alchemy. Her workshops are rich places of exploration and empowerment for artists, activists, and the creatively. Her Poetry to Performance method offers both simple and potent tools. She has facilitated these workshops at colleges, high schools, art centers, and youth prisons in the USA and UK since 2009. Her workshops are a plunge into authentic verbal expression, embodiment, and community dialogue by using the work generated as a launchpad into meaningful conversation. These packages are appropriate for colleges, high schools, art centers, festivals, organizations, spiritual centers. Each package includes a 45-60min concert, and a three hour writing/performance workshop; both with focus on one of the themes listed below. These programs will be customized to fit the specific needs of the group or organization hosting in terms of both time length and specific subjects. Workshop Culmination
Each participant leaves the workshop with a complete piece of writing for page, performances, or other personal use. For a culminating performance moment, Sariyah composes improvised vocal music for participants to perform over. This music is inspired by the material created in each workshop and brings a feeling of accomplishment, catharsis, playfulness, and collaboration.
Credentials
Sariyah holds an MFA in Creative Inquiry from CIIS in San Francisco and a BA in Arts and Social Change from Hampshire college in Amherst Massachusetts. Both degrees were self directed with a focus on music and poetry based interdisciplinary theater.
